About the Materials
For best results, use highly contrasting colors for the main color and contrasting color. I used a long color changing yarn for the background, with the lighter part of the colorway at the beginning. This allowed the dark navy of the clusters to show up well.
For the sample shown, I used one skein of Cascade Yarns Pacific Chunky Color Wave in color #411 Boston and one skein of Pacific Chunky (solid) in color #69 Navy.
This bulky-weight yarn is 60% acrylic, 40% superwash merino. It has 120 yds [110 m] in each 3.5 oz [100 g] skein.
I used US size 11 [8 mm] knitting needles to get gauge, but of course you should use whatever size you need to match the pattern gauge and ensure the hat fits. You’ll also need a cable needle for the cluster wrap stitch pattern.
