Depending on the yarn you choose, it may look like a snowflake, a star, or a flower! Use white or silver metallic for snowflakes you can hang up; gold, red, and green to add that extra something to the wrapping of a present;. Or make a set in pastels for a spring housewarming.
Taking under 20 yards of worsted weight yarn, this project is a great use for your scrap yarn.

The Yarn
Worsted-weight yarn means this project doesn’t take long to do, and scrap yarn is perfectly suited for it. You’ll need about 17 yards [16 m] per coaster. Any fiber content works, but I used wool for the samples shown.

Star Flower Coaster Pattern
The pattern is designed to be about 5 1⁄4″ [12.5 cm] tip-to-tip; there’s no other gauge measurement. This pattern uses American crochet terminology.
An ad-free pdf version is also available, complete with a crochet symbol diagram.

I used a size H-8 [5 mm] crochet hook. Use whichever size you need to achieve gauge. If you are using a smaller yarn, you’ll need a smaller hook and will make a smaller Star Flower snowflake. A larger yarn and hook will yield a larger Star Flower snowflake.
