The hat is knit in the round in stockinette stitch, using a stranded knitting technique. You’ll follow a chart for the colorwork pattern, while the crown shaping is both written and charted. Different needle sizes are used to achieve the desired size: adult small/medium or adult medium/large.

The Materials

Craft Yarn Council icon 4- medium weight yarn

Knit the hat using medium weight (worsted weight) yarn. You’ll need about 110 yards (100 meters) of the main color, and about 50 yards (45 meters) of the contrasting color. You can use plain yarn for both colors, but I chose a special glow-in-the-dark yarn that appears white in the light but really shines in the dark!

ball of white DIY Glow yarn from Lion Brand
ball of black Red Heart Soft yarn

The sample was knit using 1 ball of Red Heart Soft (100% acrylic, 5 oz/141 g, 256 yds/254 m) in color Black and 1 ball of Lion Brand DIY Glow (100% polyester, 1.75 oz/50 g, 72 yds/65 m) in color Natural.
