What You’ll Need:
You’ll need a computer, tablet or phone with speaker or headphones. If you want to ask questions, you’ll also need a microphone, although you will have the option of asking questions via the text chat feature.
Pencil and paper for taking notes.
Connecting to Zoom
For best results, use a computer or tablet, and download the Zoom app ahead of time.
A few minutes before class time, click on the link above and “Join via computer.”.
Test your audio and once you are sure it works, click on “Join audio via computer.”
If you are having trouble hearing the meeting, you can join via telephone, but still stay on the video portion of the call. Refer to the full invitation below for the numbers you need. On your phone, dial the number provided below. When prompted, enter the Meeting ID number, then enter your 2-digit participant ID so you can be associated with the computer.
During the Video Call
When you enter the call, you’ll automatically be set to Mute. Please leave your mic on mute unless you are asking a question.
In the lower portion of your Zoom screen, you’ll see a control panel that includes several icons. The ones that matter to you are:
- microphone icon – controls mute & unmute
- camera icon – turns on and off your camera
- participants list – where you’ll find a “raise hand” icon that you can use to raise your hand to ask a question
- chat icon – where you can type in questions and chat with each other and me during class
Somewhere else on the screen you’ll see a choice of “gallery view” and “speaker view”. You can toggle between the two. Gallery View shows all the participants on one screen while Speaker View shows just the person speaking. There will be times when I am sharing my screen, and you won’t see anyone at all!
